Pay: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum with 10 weeks holiday

Job Type: Freelance and Permanent options available

Terms: Full Time and Part time options available to include teaching and administrative duties

Location: Located at our brand new facilities in Letchworth Garden City.

We’re looking for a Musical Director or Ensemble singing teacher to join our team as the Head of Music

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ensemble Singing Teacher who could also serve as a Musical Director. This dual role requires a candidate with a strong background in musical direction, relevant industry experience, and a passion for teaching and mentoring musical theatre students.. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading vocal ensemble sessions, providing individualised instruction to students, and overseeing administrative tasks related to the music department.

Key responsibilities and duties

Lead vocal ensemble classes and workshops for all students and be the consistent point of contact for this department.

Opportunity to be Musical Director and over see student productions, guiding them through the rehearsal process and ensuring high-quality performances.- Ensure qualification-specific curriculum requirements are met in the relevant classes and actively contribute to the development and improvement of class content.,

- Seek diverse and appropriate material and repertoire.

- Review the delivery and standards of the Music Department, including staff observations and training, and implementing changes and improvements

- Ensuring assessments are carried out with rigour and integrity

- Provide detailed and effective student feedback in line with curriculum and overall strategy

- Participate on the music panel for auditions, provide staff and review all virtual audition submissions

- Represent the department and faculty at key events including productions, projects, and ceremonies which includes watching and/or working at in-house productions, public-facing productions, showcases and agent day

- Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to reprioritise objectives in line with the school’s changing needs

- Promote and represent Emil Dale Academy both internally and externally

- To ensure the highest levels of quality, integrity and ethics in all work undertaken within the Music Department.

- To engender a culture of excellence, co-operation, and respect both within and beyond the department.

- The primary role of EDA’s Music Department is to provide first-class Musical Theatre training to the students, appropriate to their age and background.

- Music faculty are required to exercise discretion, empathy, and professionalism in all dealings with students and subsequently staff.

While every effort has been made to describe the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual task necessary for the successful performance of the role may not be specifically identified. The Head of Musical Theatre may therefore be required to undertake other tasks and duties that are commensurate with the nature of the role and/or in the reasonable discretion of EDA.

Personal Specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential -

Significant and relevant industry

Degree qualified or equivalent or vocational qualification

Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Music, Music Education, or related field.

Desirable –

Safeguarding training

GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) training

Prevent training.

Experience, knowledge and skills

Essential –

Proven experience as a musical director, conductor, or ensemble leader in professional or educational settings.

Demonstrable expertise in music techniques with the ability to teach a range of styles and approaches

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students of all ages and backgrounds.

Familiarity with teaching assessments and educational standards, with a commitment to student success and development.

Demonstrated leadership abilities and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and senior management.

Highly motivated with dedication to the end goal of delivering exceptional teaching.

Strong organisational skills.

Strategic thinker, able to plan and implement decisions.

Enthusiastic, approachable, and flexible.

Ability to identify and progress work priorities.

Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to work collaboratively.

Ability to motivate staff members and students.

Desirable –

Master's degree or higher in Music, Music Theatre Education, or related field.

Experience of creation, design and delivery of curriculum content.

Experience of assessment and quality assurance practices.

The audition fee for all courses is £37 and is non-refundable. This is a one-off fee payable upon applying and covers the cost of the workshops and panel auditions, as well as any recall auditions if required.
