Location: Located at our brand new facilities in Letchworth Garden City.

We’re looking for an established Acting practitioner to join our team.

We are passionate about empowering students through outstanding musical theatre training, and by nurturing intelligent and critical performers. The goal is for students to have impeccable technique and skills across all three disciplines of acting, singing and dance, and to be able to earn a sustainable living in the performing arts industry.

The Role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Acting to join our faculty. The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled actor, director, or industry professional with a passion for teaching and mentoring aspiring performers. This role will involve leading acting classes, workshops, and rehearsals, as well as providing guidance and support to students as they develop their craft and work towards assessment and modules to pass their qualification. The role also requires some administrative duties to ensure alignment within the department.

Responsibilities

- Lead acting classes and workshops for all students and be the consistent point of contact for this department.

- Develop and implement curriculum for acting modules, ensuring alignment with educational objectives and industry standards.

- Oversee all facets of the Acting Department and provide strong leadership

- Undertake teaching and constant review of student development

- Option to direct and oversee student productions, guiding them through the rehearsal process and ensuring high-quality performances.

- Seek out and employ appropriately qualified, experienced staff and working professionals

- Manage staff hired to complete duties within the Acting Department

- Work closely with other Heads of Departments, Principal, Deputy Principal and Head of Musical Theatre to ensure a cohesive delivery of all elements of musical theatre across all courses

- Ensure qualification-specific curriculum requirements are met in the relevant classes and actively contribute to the development and improvement of class content.

- Seek diverse and appropriate material and scripts

- Review the delivery and standards of the Acting Department, including staff observations and training, and implementing changes and improvements

- Ensuring assessments are carried out with rigour and integrity

- Provide detailed and effective student feedback in line with curriculum and overall strategy

- Participate on the acting panel for auditions, provide staff and review all virtual audition submissions

- Represent the department and faculty at key events including productions, projects, and ceremonies which includes watching and/or working at in-house productions, public-facing productions, showcases and agent day

- Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to reprioritise objectives in line with the school’s changing needs

- Promote and represent Emil Dale Academy both internally and externally

- To ensure the highest levels of quality, integrity and ethics in all work undertaken within the Acting Department.

- To engender a culture of excellence, co-operation, and respect both within and beyond the department.

- The primary role of EDA’s Acting Department is to provide first-class Acting training to the students, appropriate to their age and background.

- Acting faculty are required to exercise discretion, empathy, and professionalism in all dealings with students and subsequently staff.

Personal Specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential -

Significant and relevant industry experience

Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Theatre, Acting, or related field.

Desirable –

Safeguarding training

GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) training

Prevent training

Experience, knowledge and skills

Essential –

Proven experience as an actor, director, or industry professional, with a strong portfolio of work.

Demonstrable expertise in acting techniques and methodologies, with the ability to teach a range of styles and approaches.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students of all ages and backgrounds.

Familiarity with teaching assessments and educational standards, with a commitment to student success and development.

Highly motivated with dedication to the end goal of delivering exceptional teaching.

Strong organisational skills.

Strategic thinker, able to plan and implement decisions.

Enthusiastic, approachable, and flexible.

Ability to identify and progress work priorities.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to work collaboratively.

Ability to motivate staff members and students.

Desirable –

Master's degree or higher in Acting, Theatre or related field.

Experience of creation, design and delivery of curriculum content.

Experience of assessment and quality assurance practices.

The audition fee for all courses is £37 and is non-refundable. This is a one-off fee payable upon applying and covers the cost of the workshops and panel auditions, as well as any recall auditions if required.
