We’re so proud to share that Dan Hand, a third-year BA (Hons) Musical Theatre student at Emil Dale Academy, has been cast in the new West End production of Oliver! - All before finishing his final term. This marks Dan’s West End debut, and it’s a huge moment for him - and for all of us at Emil Dale.
Having trained with us through both our Sixth Form and BA (Hons) courses, Dan’s journey is a real testament to his growth, commitment, and the training he’s received along the way. The story behind this casting is just as exciting. Earlier this year, the Cameron Mackintosh casting team visited Emil Dale for an in-house workshop with our graduating students. Each performer had the chance to present a solo, and when casting began for Oliver!, they got back in touch, specifically asking to see Dan.
Since then, he’s been balancing final-year training, rehearsals with the West End creative team, and preparing for our London Agent Showcase - proving not just his talent, but also his work ethic and professionalism. “Dan is the kind of student who makes the most of every opportunity,” said Amy Bird, Emil Dale’s in-house agent and industry liaison. “Getting cast in a West End show before graduation is a huge deal and so well earned. We’ve worked closely to make sure his transition into the industry is as smooth and supported as possible.”
Dan’s casting is part of a wave of success across this year’s graduating class, with several students already landing contracts in the West End, making 2025 one of our most successful years yet. At Emil Dale Academy, we focus on giving students real-world opportunities, and Dan’s journey shows exactly what’s possible. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Dan and the incredible Class of 2025.
