Emil Dale Academy Announces Expanded Three-Show Season Following Record-Breaking Grease

As Emil Dale Academy's production of Grease comes to a close at the Factory Playhouse Theatre, the success of this year's show season has prompted plans to expand next year's programme to three full-scale productions.

Across its sixteen sold-out performances, Grease welcomed 3,344 audience members, making it the Academy's longest-running musical to date and one of its most successful productions.

The production also marked a nostalgic milestone for the Academy. Grease was last staged by Emil Dale Academy ten years ago, and many members of that original cast have since gone on to successful professional careers across theatre and television.

Ellie Stevens, who played Sandy in the original production, has recently completed the role professionally in the European tour of Grease. Fellow Sandy, Sophie Byrne, has gone on to perform in Starlight Express in Germany, SixCats and Tick, Tick... Boom! Elijah Holloway is currently appearing in EastEnders, while Joseph Peacock, who played Danny, has since appeared in Dear Evan Hansen and is currently starring in Redcliffe at the Southwark Playhouse. Sam Hull, who starred in Kin, an original musical written by Emil Dale, Ronnie Burden playing Joey in Friends! The Musical Parody and Grease aboard Royal Caribbean Cruises, and Misty-May Tindell in Moulin Rouge!

From the moment audiences entered The Factory Playhouse, they were immersed in the world of Rydell High. A themed pop-up bar, bespoke set and detailed front-of-house experience reflected the same level of care given to the production itself and helped attract more audience members from outside the Academy community than ever before.

With a purpose-built theatre, featuring a unique traverse stage and central motorised revolve, supported by a bespoke set, advanced theatre automation, and dedicated technical and wardrobe teams, every aspect of the production was designed to give students first-hand experience of working to industry standards while delivering a high-quality theatrical experience for audiences.

Beyond the performances themselves, Grease provided Sixth Form students with invaluable experience of the rehearsal process, sustaining a long performance run and working as part of a professional ensemble. These are the practical skills that prepare students for careers in the performing arts long after the final curtain falls.

Earlier this year, the Third Year Degree production of The Addams Family welcomed casting directors, agents and industry professionals to the Factory Playhouse Theatre, creating valuable networking opportunities for graduating students. Several students secured new industry connections as a direct result of the production, continuing Emil Dale Academy's strong track record of supporting graduates into the profession.

Following the success of this year's productions, Emil Dale Academy has confirmed that next year's season will expand to three full-scale shows, giving even more students the opportunity to perform in professionally produced productions while welcoming even larger audiences.
