The Professional Development Program me is EDSA's advanced company, working longer sessions on Sundays, plus other rehearsal and performance mils as required, that enables committned, focused and talented young performers to develop their skills in as dose to a professional theatre environment as possible.

This programme is aimed at assisting our members with their applications for professional dance, drama and musical theatre schools.

Members will take classes in jazz, performance technique, acting, contemporary, singing, audition technique, commercial and work on a wide variety of ensemble repertoire from many different styles of musicals, old and new.

Members will get the opportunity to work with guest teachers and choreographers from the west end and UK tours, and will have the opportunity to gain some insight into the world of professional theatre.

Sessions are each Sunday during term time, with additional rehearsals in the period leading up to their two main performances (SHOWCASE in April and SUMMER MUSICAL in July).

Members work in a wide variety of musical theatre styles to expand their experience and individual repertoire, with vastly experienced and well respected industry practitioners as tutors and directors.

The programme focuses on all skills required to be a musical theatre performer, and not just the core of acting, singing and dancing, but also professional development; enabling the students to "step up" to a faster paced work rate where there is a higher expectation on the members to ensure that they are on top of all their material and where they are expected to begin to take responsibility for their own development and work ethic.

PDP is designed for students in year 10 and above who have a serious desire and belief in a career in theatre. Because the work-rate and commitment required is so high - it is not really designed for those who merely wish to pursue acting/singing/dancing purely as a hobby as inevitably these students will have different priorities in their lives and will find the ultimate commitment to a professional working regime hard to maintain.

Entrance to PDP is by means of formal audition held throughout the year.

Entrance to the Professional Development Programme (PDP) is by a formal audition process. Successful applicants will then be offered a place in PDP for one year, and will have to re-audition the following September if they wish to be considered again. The audition mirrors a professional audition and students undertake a group dance audition, and then a private audition for singing and acting. Following the singing ll acting, the applicants will then have a short interview with the principal and course director to establish their motivation and suitability for the program.
